Robert Rodriguez (director of Sin City and official DGA nemesis) hosted an online chat tonight over at DVDFanatic and, while he avoided the questions dealing with "double dip" DVDs (ie: Why the hell did the studio release two Sin City DVDs just a couple of months apart?), he did provide us with some interesting details. Because we like to make things simple for you here on Cinematical, here are some of the "best of" moments from the chat: strong>On Sin City 2 story: "Frank Miller is busy adding on to the storyline of DAME TO KILL FOR. That would be the next Sin City movie. What I like about DAME TO KILL FOR is that it has a lot of characters from SIN CITY in it... Marv is still alive, Dwight doesnt have his new face yet, Gail is in it, Goldie AND Wendy are in it as twin sisters... Miho... new characters as well. It felt like if we could expand on that story and make it bigger overall, that'd be our best choice for a sequel." On Sin City 2 casting: "No new casting on SIN CITY 2 yet, once Frank has the script we'll be able to see what all new people are in it and then have the fun of putting faces to characters..." On Sin City TV Series: "As for a TV Series, I think that was just Miramax talk. We havent' discussed actually doing that." On his latest film, Grind House (which he is co-directing with Quentin Tarantino): We started shooting on GRIND HOUSE with just a second unit, and I loved how that felt. We didn't even have a sound guy, I just had the mic plugged into the HD camera and monitored the sound with my ipod headphones. It was very cool. We moved so fast and got so much done it was unbelievable. We officially start [Grind House] end of January, but I sometimes get ahead of myself and start shooting stuff anyway. I had some actors come down and we shot 3 days of tests that will end up being in the movie. I was testing cameras, and thought we might as well be productive and shoot something useable. it's going to be a really fun movie. Quentin is very into it, also. On the new DVD for RoadRacers: "I have a new version of ROADRACERS coming out soon. Check for it, it was supposed to come out in December, not sure if it still is. It has a ten minute film school on it, commentary and a new digital color correction I worked on for a quite a long while... it looks really good, and I remixed the sound in 5.1 and beefed up the sound on it. One of my favorite movies. I shot it in 13 days, and the making of shows how to make a feature in 13 days..." On his Troublemaker Studios website: I've been wanting to make Troublemaker Studios a real site since 1995. and I STILL haven't gotten around to doing it. Right now we've put up the publishing because that was most pressing because of a coupon we had added to the new dvd. So that lit a fire under our butts. Otherwise I'd love to have a more interactive site where people could send me their short films, etc..." On another Mariachi movie : "It was always supposed to be just a trilogy, but Antonio and I joke about doing one maybe in 30 years, when the mariachi is older and more, uh.. rotund. That could be really fun." Sin City: Recut - Extended - Unrated hits stores on December 13th. For those interested, you can read the entire chat here.
