With veteran writer Gary Ross ('Seabiscuit') signed on to pen the script, the Columbia Pictures film based on the life (and autobiography) of seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong is pacing towards a distant finish line. Seasoned producer Frank Marshall is said to be spearheading the project but has yet to cast the lead.

Among the A-list contenders being considered for the prize role are Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Damon and Lance's real-life best buddy Matthew McConaughey. We've sifted through these and other likely candidates and come up with a list of five contenders we feel would best depict the cycling legend.
