[Welcome to the Sci-Fi Lunch Break, where every day we'll be supplying you with a cool bit of audio/visual goodness to break up the monotony of the work day. You bring the turkey on rye, we'll bring you something out of this world to watch while you eat it.]
If you're a fan of what this site covers, chances are good you're a fan of gaming and have been since childhood. That being the case, there is probably no need for me to explain that it's kind of a big deal when iD Software, the company that invented the first person shooter, makes a new game. It's an even bigger deal when the game in question is a new intellectual property outside of Wolfenstein, Doom or Quake.
Thus we have Rage, a new post-apocalyptic franchise starter out to blend gunplay with race car driving in an ambitious, Mad Max meets Fallout 3 kind of way. Not much has been seen (in motion) from the game until yesterday, when iD released a new trailer ahead of their gaming convention this weekend in Grapevine, Texas. If you're going to QuakeCon, you can play Rage first hand; if you're like the rest of us, you'll have to settle for merely watching the action packed wasteland marauding. object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="410" height="250" id="viddler">
And as a bonus, let's take a look at Raven Software's Singularity. Considering you can point your hand-mounted time machine at a Soviet soldier and age them until their bones turn to dust, I'd say it's a bit heavier on the science fiction than Rage.
