The anemic horror DVD offerings continue this week. I hope you have a good backlog of titles you've been meaning to watch, because November is certainly the time to catch up.

Best of the New Releases: The Echo
Phillipino filmmaker Yam Laranas has been someone I feel like I've been hearing about for years. Sigaw, his 2004 film about a haunted apartment, has received a good deal of admiration over the years, which of course meant that it was up on the remake block. However, unlike most Americanizations of Asian horror movies, Laranas stuck around to direct the remake. I have no idea if The Echo, which stars Jesse Bradford, is as good as its inspiration, but at least its arrival has reminded me I need to see both.
