'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' Getting U.S. RemakeSony Pictures has obtained the English-language rights to late Swedish author Stieg Larsson's crime thriller trilogy, The Millennium Series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Larsson, a Swedish journalist and novelist, died in 2004 of a heart attack, leaving behind three unpublished novels -- 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,' 'The Girl Who Played With Fire' and 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest' -- that have since been published to wide acclaim.

Scott Rudin shepherded the deal and will produce the films along with Ole Sondberg and Soren Staermose of Sweden's Yellow Bird Films. Yellow Bird has been instrumental in bringing remakes of several Swedish films to American screens, including 'Brothers' and the upcoming 'Let Me In,' based on the beloved Swedish art-house vampire poem to pubescent angst (no, not 'Twilight'), 'Let the Right One In.'
