An Education'Avatar,' 'An Education' and 'The Hurt Locker' were among the top films nominated this morning by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Britain's equivalent of the Oscars.

Each film received an impressive eight nominations, including nods for Best Film, where they are joined by 'Precious' and 'Up in the Air.'

Meanwhile, the acting categories offered a mix of shoo-ins and surprises. As expected, Jeff Bridges ('Crazy Heart'), George Clooney ('Up in the Air') and Colin Firth ('A Single Man') were nominated for Best Actor, alongside Jeremy Renner ('The Hurt Locker') and Andy Serkis ('Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll').

Notably absent was 'Invictus' star Morgan Freeman, who many are predicting will receive an Oscar nomination on Feb. 2. Even more surprising: 'Invictus' was left off the list entirely, receiving zero nominations total.
