Men grow dapper with age while women, apparently, grow demented. At least, that's one of the things we've learned from watching too many horror movies. Throughout film history, there have of course been a number of sweet grandmothers depicted ... but we can't remember at the moment. We only remember the grandmothers that scared the crap out of us. And judging from last year's 'Drag Me to Hell' and this week's 'Legion' (both shown in attack mode above), our grandmas are only getting creepier. div style="text-align: center;">
Editor's Note: Still Searching for 'The Shining' clip. Scared.
While "Mother" is not technically a grandmother, nor even alive, her voice remains the scariest old woman voice every recorded on celluloid. If you ever hear it creeping into your psyche, um, run?
'Headless Eyes' (1971)
We will admit to never sitting through this entire B-rated horror movie, but this scene alone haunts our minds every time we walk down a New York street. A great rent for Cheesy Movie Night.
'Friday the 13th' (1980)
Most likely the youngest of our contestants, Jason's mother almost murders an entire summer camp. She also ruined lake vacations for an entire generation, the same way 'Jaws' ruined late-night skinny-dipping.
'Grandma's House' (1989)
You know how grandma's house smells funny? Well, it may not be the mothballs like you thought.
'Army of Darkness' (1992)
This possessed old timer shows up a few times throughout the movie, inspiring some of Bruce Campbell's more memorable lines.
'Not Another Teen Movie' (2001)
One sight that almost made us go Oedipus on our eyes? Seeing grandma suck hardcore face.
'Grandma's Boy' (2006)
This entire movie is one creepy innuendo about grandma after another.
We don't care how good most grandmotherly cooking is, don't sit down at this woman's table. In fact, why aren't you all running and screaming now?
'Drag Me To Hell' (2009)
Leave it to Sam Raimi to create the creepiest old gypsy ever. This is easily the fiercest senior citizen fight of all time.
Truly taking creepy old lady to new, horrific levels, we haven't even seen the movie yet and Gladys is already haunting our dreams. Damn you, Gladys!!!
