According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sebastian Stan has signed on to play Captain America's (Chris Evans) sidekick Bucky Barnes in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic comic.

Meanwhile, Marvel confirmed today that Evans will officially play the titular superhero.

In comic history, Barnes, an orphan with a knack for fighting Nazis, partnered with Captain America until he met an untimely end during World War II. Marvel Comics revived the character in 2005 as the covert assassin Winter Soldier, and Barnes took over the shield as Captain America when Steve Rogers (briefly) met his doom in 2008.

No word yet on how he'll appear in the film.

As for Stan, who played the tortured prince Jack Benjamin in the underseen NBC drama 'Kings,' this is the latest in a series of high-profile roles. Aside from his recent turn as the 'Red Dawn'-loving villain Blaine in 'Hot Tub Time Machine', Stan just finished work on Joel Silver's 'Apparition,' and he'll appear alongside Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's 'The Black Swan'.

TV fans may remember him best for his role on the CW series 'Gossip Girl.'
