Whedon has directed a small number of films for the big screen -- just one, in fact: 2005's 'Serenity' starring Nathan Fillion, which despite good reviews earned just $25 million at the domestic box office.

Whedon is much better known for his work on the small screen, which ranges from 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' to 'Dollhouse' to 'Firefly.'
