Because I'm not one of the cool kids, I haven't seen Vincenzo Natali's Splice, a sci-fi/horror movie in the Frankenstein/Species/"Oh My God We've Created A Monster That Is Ending People" sub genre that made quite an impact at the film festivals it graced with its (apparently) bloody, creepy and bat-crap crazy presence. We've previously reported that Splice was getting a very wide summer release, showing that the folks with the money think they've got a hit on their hands. Now we've got a creepy teaser poster, showcasing Dren, the creature that two scientists (Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) create in a radical experiment, only to find the bodies start piling up.
Very few movies have truly managed to pull off the science fiction and horror hybrid, with the rest of the attempts filling the bargain bin at your local Wal-Mart. Seeing that Natali's Cube is a science fiction and horror hybrid that works on nearly level, I think I'm allowed to expect great things from Splice.
