Kristen StewartTwilight star Kristen Stewart has confirmed that she is to feature in the film version of On The Road, the hugely influential 1957 novel by 'King of the Beats' Jack Kerouac.

The story is a semi-autobiographical tale of Kerouac's travels across America in the late 40s and early 50s, alongside his friend Neal Cassady, renamed in the book as Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty respectively.

Stewart is to play the role of Marylou who, in real life, married Cassady at the age of 16 just before he met Kerouac and became involved in the burgeoning Beat movement. The film adaptation, which has been languishing in development hell for years, looks set to finally go, helmed by Walter Salles with a budget of $25 million.
