Ryan Phillippe in MacGruberDuring the press day for MacGruber, Ryan Phillippe revealed that he's always wanted to do comedy and that, while his career has tended towards drama, he's ready to mix it up.

"I always had the idea that I liked being in movies to push buttons or, you know, encourage some kind of conversation - not message movies, but I liked movies of substance... I'm kind of a serious guy in some ways, and so that's just the path I sort of got set on. Now I'm kind of freeing myself up a bit more, I guess," the actor told us.

In MacGruber, Phillippe plays Lt. Dixon Piper, a fresh-faced cadet who is assigned to work with MacGruber, much to the Grube-meister's dismay. After an unfortunate accident, Piper joins Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) as part of MacGruber's team to take down pony-tailed villain Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer).

"I've always wanted to be in this kind of movie," the normally reserved actor revealed. "I love movies like Anchorman, The Jerk, and if you're gonna be in that kind of film, you have to go for it and just play, you know? So I didn't sweat it too much. It will haunt me the rest of my career, I know." You'll have to see the movie to find out what exactly the MacGruber writers Forte, Jorma Taccone, and John Solomon got him to do, but suffice it to say, it's rather crunchy.
