The names of five young actors have popped to the top of the shortlist to play the new Peter Parker in Columbia Pictures' reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. Jamie Bell, Josh Hutcherson, Andrew Garfield, Alden Ehrenreich and Frank Dillane are now the apple of director Marc Webb's eye. According to HeatVision, these actors all fit in with the aim of Webb -- who spent several months meeting and reading with actors -- to cast relative unknowns in a story line that goes back to Parker's days at high school; it's being billed as "an angst-ridden tale of a teen dealing with the knowledge that his uncle died even though he had the power to stop it." The film was originally scheduled to begin production by year's end, but all concerned want to take their time choosing the right actor for the part.
