Guillermo del ToroOne week after he announced that he will no longer be directing the highly anticipated 'Hobbit' movie, director Guillermo del Toro posted an update today on to elaborate on his decision to leave the project.

"My commitment to the project demanded enormous sacrifices both in personal and professional terms. The consequences of which will ripple for years. I relocated my entire life and family to New Zealand and first came on board in 2008," he said in a statement.

Del Toro added that leaving New Zealand and the Hobbit crew is "extremely painful," but assured fans that his goal is to "try and ensure the best possible transition of the movie to a new director."
