Disney may have found its man behind the curtain.

Vulture reports that the studio has offered Sam Raimi the director's chair for 'Oz, the Great and Powerful,' a prequel to 1939's 'The Wizard of Oz.' The film is written by Mitchell Kapner and will be produced by Disney's own former Head Mouse, Joe Roth.

Sam Mendes and Adam Shankman had been speculated as possible contenders for directing 'Oz, the Great and Powerful,' but Raimi has received the official offer. It's unknown if he will accept the gig, though his schedule is currently open with 'Spider-Man 4' being canceled in favor of a reboot.
