She started the craze. Before her, Nicholas Sparks was just the dude behind two romances that got only a moderate amount of love -- Message in a Bottle and A Walk to Remember. But then the rain fell, she was swept into Ryan Gosling's arms, and Sparks' The Notebook became a romantic, tear-jerking phenomenon. Six years later, there was a he, who got to fall in love with Amanda Seyfried and tried to hold onto romance with a bunch of letters for Dear John.

So, what happens when you bring two Sparks alums, Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, together? More desperate romance, this time free of the Sparksian slant.
The Hollywood Reporter
posts that McAdams and Tatum are going to star in a new romance called The Vow, which will have Michael Sucsy (Grey Gardens) directing. Based on a true story, the pair will star as a newlywed couple in New Mexico who get into a car crash. She's put in a coma, and when she awakens, she's lost all memory of her husband and their marriage, so he has to pitch the woo and try to win her love back again.

Apparently this love story has been in the works for a really long time -- over a decade -- and was once shaping up as a romance for Julia Roberts. Right now, McAdams has a few films that head into production this year, so best case scenario, The Vow won't get cooking until this winter, at the earliest.

Will the film make it out of development hell? And can McAdams find the same sparks with Tatum that she had with Gosling?
