HighDefDigest has word from Blue Underground about their upcoming release of Maniac on Blu-ray. Directed by Blue Underground founder William Lustig, Maniac follows a serial killer out for the blood of women as a twisted kind of revenge for the abuse he suffered at the hands of his mother. The film featured makeup by the legendary Tom Savini, who did makeup effects for such films as the original Friday the 13th and Creepshow.

Understandably, Blue Underground appears to be pulling out all the stops for this one, releasing Maniac in what I believe is their first ever 2-disc Blu-ray Special Edition. In addition to 1080p video from a brand-new "pristine" 2K transfer and a full on lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 surround sound track, the disc will be packed with the following special features: em>

- Audio commentary: Co-producer/director William Lustig and co-producer Andrew W. Garroni
- Audio commentary: William Lustig, special make-up effects artist Tom Savini, editor Lorenzo Marinelli, and Joe Spinell's assistant Luke Walter
- Anna and the Killer: interview with Star Caroline Munro
