The last we heard about A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, Todd Strauss Schulson signed on to direct the second sequel as his first feature film. Once the helmer was in place, the main cast was lured back in -- Kal Penn off his Washington DC stint, and John Cho, of course, plus the essential Neil Patrick Harris and secondary players Paula Garces, Danneel Harris, Bobby Lee, and Eddie Kaye Thomas.

Now the new players are signing on, and at least one of the names will probably surprise you.
Variety reports that the new Harold & Kumar players include Patton Oswalt and -- get this -- Machete man himself Danny Trejo, plus the likes of comedy mainstay Tom Lennon, Amir Blumenfeld (College Humor), Fred Melamed (Sy Ableman from A Serious Man), and Richard Riehle (Smiley Face). David Burtka has also scored a part. He's been NPH's partner since 2004, so that might suggest a realistic twist for the big-screen NPH, or merely a chance for the couple to work together.

For this sequel, it's been six years since the duo escaped from Guantanamo, and now they have to deal "with the aftermath of inadvertently burning down Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree," which sounds a whole lot more like Meet the Parents than Harold and Kumar, but we'll see. There's no release date for the film yet (they say Winter 2011), but the comedy is currently in production and should get to us soon ... in 3D. Anyone else feeling really apprehensive about this?
