Louis film posterConsidering how loud, obvious and insulting to the intelligence the majority of films are nowadays, it's no surprise that some filmmakers want to hark back to simpler times.

Well, that's exactly what writer/director Dan Pritzker has done with his film Louis, a biopic of Jazz legend Louis Armstrong: it's silent, has title cards and will be accompanied at every screening by an ensemble of some of the greatest musicians in Jazz providing a live soundtrack. You can leave your 3D glasses at the door.

As you can tell from the trailer below, Louis is a beautiful looking film which, according to the press release, is "an homage to Louis Armstrong, Charlie Chaplin, beautiful women and the birth of American music." It's biggest star is Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley who plays a devious judge; he's clearly got the knack in acting like a silent film star, all wide eyes and waving arms.
