Toy Story 3 posterThe fastest film ever to crack £50m at the UK box-office (after just 21 days). The biggest animated movie of all time. And now also the 12th biggest film of all time in the UK, with many weeks of play still ahead of it. Toy Story 3 continues to make its mark on the record books, after a week in which its cumulative gross rose by a nifty £11.7m, for a total of £51.5m.

Toy Story 3 is one of only 15 movies ever to gross £50m in the UK. The list is led by Avatar, with £92.0m, then Mamma Mia! (£69.2m) and Titanic (£69.0m). TS3 may not reach those giddy heights, but with four weeks of school holidays left, it should certainly climb above £60m, which would earn it seventh place at worst.

Top new releases of the weekend proved to be Knight And Day, the glossy spy caper starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. After a mediocre performance in the US, its UK opening of £2.4m is at the top end of expectations, and suggests the enduring appeal of Cruise in a romantic action role. The film received a big PR boost through the stars' appearance on BBC2's Top Gear; expect more Hollywood A-listers to beat a path to Jeremy Clarkson's door.
