Trainer fetishists and time travel enthusiasts rejoice! According to, a website dedicated to sneakers (or trainers, or whatever you call them), Nike have filed a patent for a shoe with an automatic lacing system, extremely similar to the pair worn by Marty McFly in 'Back to the Future Pt.II', set in the year 2015.

According to the patent (filed in February 2009), the shoes have 'three lighting devices' which are associated with 'an automatic fastening system'. What's even cooler is that they'll come with their own power supply system, which looks much like the hoverboard used in the same film. It's undisclosed whether they'll make the satisfying 'ssszzzup' noise that Mcfly's Nike Air Mags do (see the clip below).
