Jennifer Aniston in The SwitchWhen the summer started, 'The Switch,' starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman in your classic "whoops, I switched the sperm samples" romantic comedy, seemed like it could be one of the bigger chick flicks of the season.

Even in the weeks leading up to its release, the movie's box office had promise. After all, its two marquee actors are known for their charm and comedy chops, and the competition didn't seem all that fierce. ('Vampires Suck'? Really?)

But on its opening weekend, 'The Switch' ... well, not to put too fine a point on it, but it flopped, earning only $8.4 million to finish a disappointing seventh at the weekend box office.

What happened? Was it simply a bad movie? That wouldn't explain everything -- "bad" movies earn boatloads of money all the time. Or does Aniston, as some analysts have archly stated, just not have what it takes to be a leading lady?
