Martin FreemanMartin Freeman, still perhaps best known as Tim from The Office, has reportedly turned down the role of Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Ring's prequel, The Hobbit, due to his filming commitments on the next series of the BBC adaptation of Sherlock Holmes.

Apparently, Freeman has committed himself to a 20-week filming schedule as Doctor Watson alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes. A 'source' told The Sun:
"It was one of the most difficult decisions of his career. MGM, who are making the film, only got a formal offer over in the last couple of weeks. It was too late for Martin because he had already signed up for another series of Sherlock. It was agonising but he had no other choice."
