In 'Iron Man 2,' Scarlett Johansson didn't get a whole lot to do, but her main action scene as S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, was one of the superhero sequel's highlights. The actress is already set to reprise the role in some capacity for the 'Avengers' movie, out in 2012, and now word comes from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that Black Widow will eventually receive her own solo film down the road. "We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea, he revealed during a press conference about the DVD release of 'Iron Man 2,' "but 'The Avengers' comes first."
That's great news for fans of the character and of female superheroes in general, as it should likely be on par with other Marvel movies and therefore reverse the track seen with 'Catwoman,' 'Elektra,' 'Aeon Flux,' etc. One thing this does raise, too, is whether or not every 'Avengers' character will get a solo outing. Obviously Jeremy Renner (who is incredible in 'The Town,' by the way) deserves an isolated Hawkeye installment. The character, who will make his first appearance in 'The Avengers,' could also sensibly show up in 'Black Widow,' especially if it is true as claimed that Renner and Johansson will be romantically involved in the ensemble, collective piece.
