Who is your dream director for the 'Superman' reboot? Got someone in mind? Okay, now see if that person is one of the five filmmakers shortlisted by producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas: Tony Scott ('Top Gun'); Matt Reeves ('Cloverfield'); Zack Snyder ('Watchmen'); Duncan Jones ('Moon'); and Jonathan Liebesman ('The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning'). It's a mixed bag, as reported by Deadline, with Scott coming in as the relative veteran against a crop of fresher talents (and non-talents, depending on your view on their work). Meetings have already begun and Nolan is supposed to make a decision in a few weeks.

Surprising, perhaps, is the absence of Jonathan Nolan in the group. The brother of 'The Dark Knight' helmer Christopher Nolan (who is "godfathering" this re-ignited superhero franchise) was rumored to be in line to make this his directorial debut. It is possible he's still being considered and simply doesn't need to be shortlisted because he wouldn't need to take a meeting with his sibling. Also not on the list, because he passed on the project, is Guillermo del Toro, who we recently learned had been offered the gig by the studio earlier this year. Fortunately, the rumored Chris Columbus is absent, as well.
Most of the narrowed down names have new movies out soon, with Reeves' 'Let the Right One In' remake, 'Let Me In,' debuting at Fantastic Fest this weekend and Snyder's unexpected animated animal movie 'Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole' opening in theaters tomorrow. Liebesman is supposedly the least likely to be picked since he's got 'Clash of the Titans 2' on his plate, while Scott always has a buffet table's worth of options. Having only one film released so far, a perfect one at that, Jones seems like the best pick at the moment -- and let's start casting already, with 'Moon' star Sam Rockwell as Lex Luthor, please.

Which director do you prefer? Or, are you hoping a dark horse slips in at the last minute?
