There's plenty of action-adventure coming your way on DVD this week -- some of it good, some of it bad. On the good side there's DreamWorks Animation's 'How to Train Your Dragon,' a delightfully warm and uplifting tale that gives the folks over at Pixar a run for their animated money. The film uses the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Kristen Wiig. On the dark side there's 'Jonah Hex' -- a filmic representation of the DC Comic antihero -- that bombed at the box office. It doesn't fare any better on the small screen. Read on.
'How to Train Your Dragon'
What It's About: Set in a mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, this animated action-comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn't exactly fit in with his tribe's tradition of heroic dragon slayers. To pass his Viking initiation he has to hunt down a dragon and bring it into submission, but instead he ends up with the smallest, most ornery dragon who challenges the Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

It's Kinda Like: 'Dragonheart' meets 'Pete's Dragon'

What We Say: Dazzling animation, witty dialogue, a heartfelt story full of love and empathy, romance and action, and a friendship between man and beast -- what more could one ask in a film that appeals to all age groups -- and I mean from the wee ones to our senior citizens. The trailers on this one painted it to be a boy's film -- there are dragons, for god's sake -- but it definitely is for boys and girls, men and women. The critics over at Rotten Tomatoes gave 'Dragon' a 98 percent rating, which is really saying something. Don't miss it.
• Extras: The DVD and Blu-ray include several behind-the-scenes featurettes as well as games and a tutorial on how to build your own 3-D dragon.

'Jonah Hex'
What It's About: Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a Civil War vet-turned-vengeful bounty hunter with one foot in the natural world and one on the "other side." His horrendously scarred face hides an even deeper wound -- his wife and child were murdered by crazed villain Quentin Turnbull (played by the always evil John Malkovich). Turnbull has now amassed an army of malcontents to destroy the Union and only Hex can stop him. So what else is new?

It's Kinda Like: 'Wild Wild West' meets 'The Punisher'

What We Say:
Here's a role we bet Josh Brolin would like to forget: he gamely tries to instill life into his character and the film but is thwarted on all sides: The film is so haphazardly scripted and edited that its 81-minute running time seems way to long. Not even the delightful Megan Fox as a Western prostitute can brighten up the proceedings. If ever there were a poster child for not making more graphic novels into big screen extravaganzas, 'Jonah Hex' is it.
• Extras: Both the DVD and Blu-ray include additional scenes and featurettes
