The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (you know, the folks who hand out the Oscars) has found its host for the 83rd annual Academy Awards ceremony set to air on February 27th 2011. Actually, make that hosts, as they've just announced that James Franco and Anne Hathaway will be sharing hosting duties.

If you think this sounds like a strange choice, that's because it is. For starters, neither of them are comedians, the usual type to get this kind of gig. In the past decade or two, the show has been hosted by Steve Martin, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Chevy Chase and a laundry list of other "funny people." If you ignore Hugh Jackman's 2008 turn as host, you have to go all the way back to 1975 to find an Oscar ceremony that didn't have at least one recognized comic emceeing the show.

And then there's the fact that both of them could be potentially nominated for awards themselves that night (Franco is a shoe-in for his incredible work in'127 Hours' and Hathaway is a dark horse contender for 'Love and Other Drugs') which, well, could be a little awkward.
