Last we heard, Andy and Lana Wachowski – the filmmakers behind 'The Matrix' – were hard at work on their intriguing new film 'CN-9.' Unfortunately, the directing duo hasn't been able to secure funding for their tale of forbidden love between an American and Iraqi soldier and the men's plan to assassinate President George W. Bush. As they continue to seek financing for that project, the Wachowski's also have other irons in the fire.

THR is reporting that one of those projects is a new take on 'Robin Hood,' simply titled 'Hood.' This may seem odd after Ridley Scott's 'Robin Hood' underwhelmed at the US box office this summer (before rebounding to make 200 million in its foreign release – pushing it into profitability), but the Wachowski version will reportedly be a "modernized" take on the classic tale of Sherwood Forest's most beloved outlaw. In other words, don't expect to see anyone running around in green tights with a bow and arrows as their weapon of choice...

According to reports, the filmmakers are already opening talks with potential actors. In typical Wachowski fashion, details surrounding the film are currently shrouded in a thick veil of secrecy. Insiders with knowledge of the project are reporting that the siblings have made a tentative approach to actor Will Smith.

Warner Bros., the Wachowski's home studio since the debut of 'The Matrix,' will back this new take on the classic tale. Relations between the writer/directors and the studio seem as strong as ever, despite Warner's disappointment with the box office returns from 2008's disastrous 'Speed Racer' and their passing at the opportunity to release 'CN-9.'

At this point, all we can do is speculate as to what 'Hood' may be about. The obvious guess is that this updated Robin Hood will involve Smith and his band of gun-toting merry men robbing something (an armored truck? A mega corporation?) and distributing the loot back to the poor people in their 'hood. Not exactly the most original idea (and almost assuredly wrong on every level...), but if they get someone like Gene Hackman to play the modern day Sheriff of Nottingham – making it like a strange sequel to 'Enemy of the State' – it might be watchable.

What do you guys think? Are you interested in another take on 'Robin Hood' or would you prefer to see the admittedly outrageous sounding 'CN-9' moving forward instead? Does 'CN-9' make you think of a cable TV channel that should be showing episodes of 'Gossip Girl' and 'The Vampire Diaries' too? Share your hopes and dreams in the comment section below.
