The trailer for 'Thor' has finally hammered itself straight into the public's Marvel obsession (watch it after the jump). Due out on May 6th, it could be said that 'Thor' is this year's 'Iron Man' -- a launching pad for a new Marvel character that we're familiar with from the comics and cartoons (and 'Adventures in Babysitting'), but not completely sold on yet. This is the first big-budgeted live-action film for Thor, and at first it seemed like somewhat of a risky move putting a director like Kenneth Branagh in the driver's seat, though now the decision makes complete sense.

Thor and his mythological roots, complete with Gods, warriors and super cool Frost Giants, is perfect for Branagh, who's spent a lot of time on and off the screen involved with Shakespeare-related productions. Thor's mythology is probably one of the more poetic out of all the Avengers, and Branagh looks to be respecting that while at the same time giving the fans what they've come to expect from this new crop of Marvel films: Seriously fun comic book movies for both die hard and casual fans.

This trailer is a mix of new stuff and the footage that was screened back at Comic-Con. It sets up the basic premise that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is banished from his home planet to earth by his father (Anthony Hopkins) where he hooks up with a human girl (played by Natalie Portman) before discovering that some other-worldly trouble may have followed him here. Cue awesome battle sequences.
