Chances are you'll be watching 'A Christmas Story' at least once over the next few days. Ever since TBS started airing 24 hours of the film beginning Christmas Eve through Christmas Day, it's become a tradition in many households to keep their televisions tuned in to Ralphie's X-mas-related trials and tribulations for hours upon hours on end.

As such, there's a good chance a few questions may pop up while the film is playing in the background, attempting to drown out Uncle Eddie's post-Christmas dinner snoring. We'll be taking the next couple of days to answer some of those questions for you, this way when your little cousin Bobby turns and asks whether a person can really have yellow eyes, you'll be waiting with a smile and the correct answer.

'A Christmas Story' Myths: Can a Person Really Have Yellow Eyes?

Short Answer: Yes

Longer Answer: As Ralphie continues on his quest to acquire the elusive Red Ryder BB Gun, he's continually threatened by the local bully, Scut Farkus. When we're first introduced to Farkus, Ralphie's voice-over points out that he has yellow eyes -- so help me god, yellow eyes! But is it really possible for a person to have yellow eyes?
Yup, it's possible, though if you have yellow eyes, then chances are there's something wrong with you. Everyone is born with gray eyes, and then after awhile your eyes will settle on their final color. It's possible to have any color eyes with colored contact lenses, but if you have yellow eyes and you're not wearing contact lenses, then you may want to ask a doctor to check for the following, all of which list yellow eyes as a symptom (via
  • Jaundice
  • Hepatitis
  • Alcoholic liver disease
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia
  • Bile duct obstruction
  • Pancreatic carcinoma
  • Liver Cancer
For Scut's sake, we hope Ralphie was simply stretching the truth when he said the kid had yellow eyes. And, as you can see from the still above, Scut obviously did not have yellow eyes.
