Ever since 'Cop Out' opened to less than flattering reviews, filmmaker Kevin Smith has been waging a mini Twitter war with film critics. Smith claims he doesn't need critics or reviews for his films, particularly from people who get to see the movies for free and then write horrible things about them. He may be right. Smith has an army of devoted fans who will see anything his name is attached to. However, it's hard to deny that Smith's stance has created some hard feelings in the movie critic community. Luckily, it seems like those bad vibes could be set aside with one really good film from the guy – and if this teaser trailer is any indication, 'Red State' could very well be that movie.

A wild departure for the director, who's made his career with comedies like 'Clerks', 'Dogma' and 'Chasing Amy,' 'Red State' marks Smith's first foray into the world of horror cinema. The journey from idea to the screen has been a long and arduous process, but it appears as though 'Red State' has come out stronger for enduring the adversity.

The new teaser, which debuted on Smith's Smodcast website, can be found after the jump. It looks distinctly different from any of Smith's other offerings, featuring a dark and grimy visual aesthetic that's a million miles removed from his lighter fare.
