On Sunday, February 27, millions of film fans as well as bitchy people eager to make fun of celebrity wardrobes will watch the Academy Awards, the ceremony regularly hailed as the be-all and end-all of honors that can be bestowed upon films and filmmakers. Until then, however, there are six full days of great film watching available, and the best part is that you don't even have to watch the films being nominated – you can see whatever you want! Thankfully, many of the theatres and repertory houses across the country are engaging in their regular programming to make sure that cinephiles across the country are occupied with pictures that, well, if they don't maybe deserve gold statuettes, at the very least earn a permanent place in our hearts and minds.

But before we get to the stuff we think you should see up on the big screen, we would like to remind you to please leave comments and send in emails with any suggestions you may have for events, screenings, or other opportunities film fans may have to share with others in their celebration of the medium. Also, when and if you attend any of the events listed below, please let us know about your experiences, and let the organizers know where you found out about it!
