It's too early to tell what kind of year 2011 will be for kids' movies, but 'Gnomeo and Juliet' has already made over 75 million dollars, and 'Rango' (featuring the voice talent of Johnny Depp) releases this weekend. Two of this year's most anticipated animated features won't be out until summer and fall – when 'Kung Fu Panda 2' and 'Puss in Boots' land in theaters. Those releases seem very far away at this point, but DreamWorks doesn't want you to forget about either feature – hence the release of two new trailers.
The company is betting that both films will be a hit with under-10 set. If these two new previews are any indication, they may be on to something.
'Kung Fu Panda 2' is the sequel to the 2008 hit featuring Jack Black as a hilariously inept Panda who becomes a Kung Fu master. In the sequel, which ups the ante by featuring 3D, Po and his friends must stop a new villain who's set to use an unstoppable weapon to destroy China and Kung Fu. It's not all serious martial arts action, as the new clip demonstrates – there's plenty of time between tiger punches for Black and the rest of the ensemble cast (which features Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan and others) to crack wise. Catch this one in theaters on May 26th.
'Puss in Boots,' meanwhile, finds Antonio Banderas as the cat's meow. The 'Desperado' star voices the title cat, one of the more popular characters in the 'Shrek' universe, in his debut standalone adventure. Since the new footage is just a teaser, it doesn't divulge much about the story, but it does give us lots of Banderas.
The film follows Puss' earliest adventures, where the swashbuckling cat teams up Humtpy Dumpty (Zack Galifianakis) and Kitty (Salma Hayek) in a quest to steal the goose the lays the golden eggs. 'Puss in Boots' debuts at a theater near you on November 4th.
