20th Century Fox has gone, well, ape, over 'Rise of the Apes': Studio execs were so pleased with the footage they've seen so far that they've moved up the release date from Thanksgiving to Aug. 5, taking advantage of the last month of the summer season. The competition that weekend will be stiff, though, with Universal's comedy 'The Change-Up,' Summit's sci-fi alien invasion film 'The Darkest Hour' and Sony's 'The Smurfs' all opening up. James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis star in the ape "origins" story set in modern-day San Francisco. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Alan Rickman and Tom Courtenay have joined the cast of the remake of 1966's 'Gambit,' a caper film about a pair of criminals who team up to con the richest man in England. The film, directed by Michael Hoffman ('The Last Station') and scripted by Joel and Ethan Coen, stars Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth. The original starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. [TheWrap]
