"Frodo, don't wear the ring!"

No, that's not a line of dialogue from Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. It's a lyric from the musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords' 'LOTR' tribute song "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring."

In a stroke of awesome genius, Bret McKenzie, one half of the talented New Zealand pair, has been cast as Lindir, an Elf of Rivendell, in Jackson's prequel 'The Hobbit.'

McKenzie has previous experience with the actual 'LOTR' trilogy too; he played an extra in the first and third movies, earning him the fan-made nickname "Figwit." "Figwit," which stands for "Frodo is great...who is that?!", gained popularity online for his elven good looks.

The rest of 'The Hobbit' cast is Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett reprising their roles from the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. The end product will be two movies, which began shooting on March 21 and will be in production in New Zealand for the next 14 months, similar to how Jackson shot the Oscar-winning original trilogy.

For you die-hard 'LOTR' fans, McKenzie's character, Lindir, is one of the elves who enjoys Bilbo's song so much, he asks for a second hearing and who gives readers these great lines of dialogue:
"It is not easy for us to tell the difference between two mortals," said the Elf.

"Nonsense, Lindir," snorted Bilbo. "If you can't distinguish between a Man and a Hobbit, your judgment is poorer than I imagined. They're as different as peas and apples."

"Maybe. To sheep other sheep no doubt appear different," laughed Lindir. "Or to shepherds. But Mortals have not been our study. We have other business."

What a sassy elf. Perfect casting for funnyman McKenzie. Bilbo, don't wear the ring!
