The rock 'em, sock 'em robot movie 'Real Steel' doesn't open until Oct. 7, but DreamWorks is already moving forward on a sequel. The studio has commissioned John Gatins, who wrote the first film, to start on the follow-up, although sequel deals have yet to be made with star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.

DreamWorks made the unusual move after receiving positive responses to internal screenings of the film and a clip shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Are they over-confident? This 'The Fighter'-meets-'The Terminator' flick does boast several crowd-pleasing elements: giant robots battling it out, an underdog sports angle and father-son bonding. Watch the trailer after the jump.

The movie is based on a short story by 'I Am Legend' novelist Richard Matheson. It was into a much more lo-tech 'Twilight Zone' episode starring Lee Marvin as a boxer who replaces his own broken bot in the ring in a future where boxing has been outlawed for humans.

Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, Kevin Durand and Hope Davis co-star.
