Who said you can never go home again?

Johnny Depp, who pretty much got his acting start on Fox's TV series '21 Jump Street,' will have a cameo role in the film version of the show that ran from 1987 to 1991.

The Columbia Pictures film, which is said to have a lighter feel than the TV series, follows a pair of undercover cops (Jonah Hill, who also wrote the screenplay, and Channing Tatum) who tackle crime in a local high school. Also in the cast are Ice Cube (who plays the police chief), Brie Larson (the female lead), Rob Riggle, DeRay Davis, Dave Franco and Jake Johnson. The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ('Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs').

According to Coming Soon, Depp, who played lead Officer Tom Hanson in the series for 80 episodes, will have a "really funny" cameo to play.

'21 Jump Street' is set for a March 16, 2012, release.
