Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the creative duo between indie sensation 'Catfish,' are set to direct 'Paranormal Activity 3' for Paramount Pictures.

The screenwriter of 'Paranormal Activity 2' will return to write the third installment of the horror franchise, which is due for an Oct. 21 release.

Original 'Paranormal' director Oren Peli stays on as producer.

According to ComingSoon, the third film is "currently being envisioned as an origin story set in the 1980s that will follow a new family." Cue the terrifying BETA tapes and clunky, old-school video camera.

No cast has yet been announced.

'Catfish' earned nearly $3.5 million worldwide and gained notoriety as a "is it real or faked?" documentary.

The Hollywood Reporter called 'Catfish' "jaw-dropping" and "crowd-pleasing" and Movieline referred to it as "the most-buzzed about documentary" at that year's Sundance film fest, while debating to whether it should be classified as documentary or fiction.
