And you thought Steven Spielberg's 'Hook' put a new spin on Peter Pan.

How about this twist on the tale of the boy who never grew up: Now he's a notorious kidnapper and Captain Hook is a heroic detective on his trail.

In this modern update, Aaron Eckhart will play Hook, a former detective whose only ally is Smee (Sean Bean, currently starring in HBO's 'Game of Thrones'), a cop who's still on the force. Eckhart and Bean in the same film? Crazy as this new take sounds, count us in with that cast.

'Soul Surfer''s AnnaSophia Robb has signed on to play Wendy, the only child to survive her abduction. No word yet on who will play the villainous Peter Pan.
Visual effects animator Ben Hibon will make his feature directing debut with the film, which will begin shooting in Europe this fall.

What do you think? Is this an intriguing spin on an oft-old tale or a wrongheaded reinvention of a childhood classic? And will there be a man-eating crocodile?
