Brisk business continues in Cannes, France, with Warner Bros. and Focus Features International announcing that Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving and Ben Whishaw have joined 'Matrix' filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski's ambitious big-screen adaptation of David Mitchell's 2004 novel 'Cloud Atlas.' Tom Hanks also stars.

The Wachowski siblings share writing and directing duties on the film with Tom Tykwer, director of 'Run Lola Run' and the 2009 Clive Owen thriller 'The International.'

'Cloud Atlas' is a complex novel made up of six separate stories that take place across time and throughout the world, from the remote South Pacific in the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic future.

Filming begins this summer in Germany with an eye toward a May 4, 2012, release.
