I love summer movies. Especially when I go with my mama. She always tells the box office clerk that she wants a ticket for her favorite daughter. She also tells them that I'm 7.

There are a lot of great movies coming out this summer, so I thought I'd give you a heads-up about a few of them.

'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' comes out in August, and I can't wait. The trailer looks really scary. When I was growing up I was fascinated by apes. Personally, I think a planet of apes would be great, but can you imagine the price of bananas?

I'm also excited for 'Super 8.' People are saying it's like a modern day 'E.T.' I'm glad. 'E.T.' hasn't been the same since Mary Hart left.
'Cars 2' arrives June 24, and if there's one thing everyone wants more than a Pixar movie, it's a Pixar sequel! And if there's one thing we all love, it's the ocean. Did I say "the ocean"? I meant "cars."

I love documentaries and there are a lot of great ones coming out this summer. I can't wait to see 'One Lucky Elephant.' It's about an amazing elephant and her life after the circus. 'Louder Than a Bomb' follows four Chicago teens preparing for a youth poetry slam. Then 'Project Nim' is the story of a 1970's family who adopted a chimpanzee and taught it sign language.

Brad Pitt and Sean Penn are supposed to be amazing in 'Tree of Life,' which just won the Palme d'Or award at the Cannes Film Festival. For all you home schoolers, "Palme d'Or" is French for "tomato sauce."

Katie Holmes is in the remake of 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark,' and after watching the trailer I'd say the title is very, very, very bad advice.

That's all for now. Stay tuned, 'cause I'm gonna be talking more about summer movies all summer long. I'm also gonna be reviewing what might be my favorite movie of the summer, 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' -- right here on Moviefone.

Comedienne and talk show host Ellen is a featured columnist this summer for Moviefone and she's sharing several summer movies pieces with us. Come back right here to read more later this week. Catch 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' weekdays on NBC, or find out more here.
