'Up in the Air' star Vera Farmiga makes her directorial debut with 'Higher Ground,' in which she plays a woman struggling with her faith through the turbulent sixties.
She's already getting raves for the film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Fest. Time Out NY calls her "our generation's Streep" who may have "found a higher calling behind the camera."

Whoa! That's some high praise indeed. (Sorry, Vera, we left you off our Best Actress Oscar contenders list. Consider yourself added.)

John Hawkes of 'Winter's Bone' and Joshua Leonard co-star in the film, and that's Farmiga's younger sister Taissa playing Farmiga's character Corinne as a child.

'Higher Ground,' is based on a memoir by Carolyn Briggs. It opens in the U.S. on August 26.
