First there was the controversial casting choice of having Penn Badgley play the late alt-rock icon Jeff Buckley in the upcoming biopic, 'Greetings From Tim Buckley.' Now Spinner has reported that 'Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark' actor Reeve Carney will be the next star to portray Buckley in a separate biopic after beating out the likes of Robert Pattinson and James Franco for the role.
In response to the news of Carney's casting, Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, spoke approvingly of having the Broadway star on board. "We are over the moon that Reeve has agreed to take on this challenging role," said Guibert. "He's been getting ready for this all his life. It certainly doesn't hurt that he looks so much like Jeff."
Though it's still untitled, the biopic will detail Buckley's life up until his untimely drowning in 1997 at the age of 30. The film will be directed by Jake Scott and is still awaiting a release date, but click through to compare Carney's and Buckley's music videos to judge for yourselves whether or not this is a casting choice fitting of Buckley's legacy.
