Because beach volleyball just isn't the same in two dimensions, Tony Scott's 'Top Gun' is reportedly heading back to theaters... in 3-D. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legend3D is taking on the conversion process and the re-release is set to hit theaters some time in 2012.
Said Legend3D CEO Rob Hummell in a statement: "As I understand it, they are planning to release ['Top Gun'] in 3D in early 2012, though I know they want to get Tony Scott's approval before they go forward."

Hard to imagine them doing this without Scott's permission, but after Hummell premiered a 3D version of the "Danger Zone" flight scene at the International Broadcasting Convention this morning, it seems like 'Top Gun 3D' is coming whether we like it or not.
