The 1974 film adaptation of 'The Great Gatsby,' based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's landmark 1925 novel, was considered a critical bomb. Which is why fans are hoping Baz Luhrmann's upcoming 'Gatsby' flick is a success. Despite the fact that the story's setting is 1920s Long Island, Luhrmann is shooting the film in Australia. And, as these new set pics prove, he's doing a good job at nailing the look of Prohibition-era New York.
The pics appear to show the exterior of George Wilson's auto shop, the scene of Myrtle's unfortunate demise. Unfortunately, images of Gatsby's house have yet to materialize. At least not yet.

'Gatsby' stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan and Isla Fisher as the doomed Myrtle. 'The Great Gatsby' is set to open on Christmas Day 2012, the same date as Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained,' which also stars DiCaprio.
