Look out, Kathryn Bigelow; you're about to have company. Variety reports that John Stockwell (yes, this John Stockwell) is set to direct an Osama Bin Laden movie called 'Code Name Geronimo.' Bigelow has already gotten a head start with her project, tentatively titled, 'Kill Bin Laden,' so it will be interesting to see what happens as these movies slowly come into focus. It's still a little too early to start comparing both films, but it appears 'The Hurt Locker' director plans on making the decade-long hunt for Bin Laden the focus of her's, whereas Stockwell will stick to covering just the raid on the late al Qaeda leader.
No offense to Stockwell's previous work (he directed 'Blue Crush' and 'Turistas'), but it seems like the studio behind the project is taking a big risk here; after all, it's inevitable that 'Code Name Geronimo' will be compared to Bigelow's film. So, how does a director who's best known for a surf movie stack up against an Oscar winner? You'll find out soon enough.
