'Twilight' versus 'The Hunger Games' isn't quite a debate on the level of The Beatles versus The Rolling Stones, but it's safe to say that some people prefer Bella to Katniss and vice versa. Could this potential casting news bring peace to the two fan bases? Variety reports that Liam Hemsworth -- your future District 12 hunter Gale Hawthorne -- is among those actors testing for one of the two male leads in 'The Host,' an adaptation of 'Twilight' author Stephenie Meyer's YA thriller.
Hemsworth is testing to play Jared, the boyfriend of Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), a young woman who has her body compromised by an alien named Wanderer (also Ronan). Kit Harrington, Jai Courtney and Max Irons are also on the short list to grab the role.

As for the other male lead, Ian, a guy who "brutalizes" Wanderer before falling in love, Thomas McDonnell, Augustus Prew and Jake Abel are among the actors Variety pegs as potential stars.

Hemsworth can be seen in 'The Hunger Games,' out on March 23, 2012. 'The Host,' with Andrew Niccol directing, is due in theaters on March 29, 2013.
