Today in bananas: reclusive and notoriously slow-moving director Terrence Malick has set casts for two upcoming projects -- both of which star Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett -- that will shoot back-to-back next year despite not being narratively connected. Because, obviously!
Variety broke the news that Bale, Blanchett, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett will co-star in something called 'Lawless'; meanwhile, Bale, Blanchett and Isabel Lucas ('Immortals') will co-star in 'Knight of Cups.' Per the trade publication, both projects will be pitched to buyers at the American Film Market in Santa Monica this week.

Back in September, Malick was spotted with Bale and Bennett at the Austin City Limits musical festival in Austin, Texas. It's safe to assume that was pre-production work for 'Lawless,' unless Malick has a third secret project coming as well. And, hey: why not?

Before release 'The Tree of Life' in May, the last Malick movie was 'The New World' in 2005. He also directed an untitled drama with Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Javier Bardem, which could be due in theaters sometime next year.
