In the latest trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness," destruction is around every corner, as Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) chases after John Harrison (Benedict Cumberbatch), a member of the Starfleet Academy gone rogue and terrorizing the organization.

"Darkness is coming," Harrison says in voiceover, and it's hard to argue with that assessment. The Enterprise takes a beating early on, receiving heavy fire and bursting into flame before sinking into a large body of water. "The ship's dead, sir," Scotty (Simon Pegg) tells Kirk.

But headstrong Kirk isn't going down without a fight, and despite protestations from Starfleet, he takes off on a hunt for Harrison, revenge in mind. The clip's breathless pace braces audiences for what's sure to be a brutal final confrontation between the crew and its antagonist.

Check out the trailer for clues as to how the showdown with Harrison will shake out, and catch the film in theaters May 17.
