Though Carey Mulligan tackled one iconic fictional figure in Daisy Buchanan, she won't be doing the same for a real-life one.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The Great Gatsby" actress has turned down the opportunity to play Hillary Clinton in "Rodham," the biopic about the former Secretary of State, senator, and First Lady.
Sources say Mulligan "was not prepared to commit to the role."
Now, director James Ponsoldt ("The Spectacular Now") must move on to find another lead actress to embody Clinton in her early years, during her time on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon's impeachment. "Rodham" will focus on the young lawyer torn between her career and her feelings for future husband and president, Bill Clinton.
So who might step into one of the most sought-after roles in Hollywood? Actresses reportedly under consideration include Scarlett Johansson and Emma Stone. It's certainly a juicy part, and one that could merit Oscar consideration -- much like the attention Naomi Watts is already getting for her turn in the "Diana" biopic.
Who do you think should play Hillary Clinton?
